We conducted two beach cleans and covered 239 m of shore. We collected 37 kg of litter which consisted mostly of plastic and fishing gear. We learnt about the types of marine pollution and the dangers they pose to the wildlife and environment. The Highland Council collected the rubbish and disposed off it following The Environmental Protection Act guidelines.
We analysed the litter we collected by weighing the different categories (plastic, glass, and metal). We transferred our data on excel sheets and created pie charts and bar graphs to better understand our findings. We shared our report with Dr. Thomas Stanton who is running a new exciting project on marine litter in Skye.
Our local shore is teeming with life and we should all work together to keep it clean. Excellent work EM5-7!
